My Favorite Curvy Jeans

Shopping for jeans has never been a fun activity for me; it’s even left me in tears on multiple occasions. Finding a pair that has a high-rise, fits over my hips but doesn’t gape in the waist while flattering my body, and doesn’t cost $300 can often feel like searching for affordable Seattle real estate (hopeless). After much trial and error, plus some blood, sweat, and tears, I’ve found some staple pairs that check all of my boxes! For reference, I am 5’9 / 200 lbs. and usually wear a size 14/32.

Abercrombie & Fitch

Curve Love 90’s Ultra High Rise Straight Leg - $89

I’m always wary of clothing that claims to be made for curvier bodies, but these jeans totally live up to the hype. Not only are they ultra-flattering and incredibly comfortable, but they also come in a wide variety of washes, lengths, and styles. I own 5 pairs and find myself reaching for them nearly every day.

If you’re wondering what the difference is between the curve and non-curve styles, I own both and can say that the non-curve jeans are wider in the waist which can lead to a gap if you’re smaller waisted. As far as sizing goes, I can wear both a 32 and a 31; the 32’s will get pretty baggy throughout the day, but not to the point of falling down or looking like sweatpants.

Levi’s

Wedgie Straight Leg - $89

For something a bit more fitted without entering skinny jean territory, the wedgie straight leg jeans are a wonderful option. The name is more than just marketing, these jeans really do lift your booty! There are several washes and lengths to choose from depending on what look you’re going for, but I have found different washes to fit drastically different which can be super frustrating, so I recommend trying these on in-store.

Levi’s

Mile High Super Skinny - $69

I know that some people might think that skinny jeans are dead, but to me, they're timeless! I’ve got a few different pairs of these mile high skinnies, and they are both comfortable and flattering. These jeans are available in three different lengths as well as a wide variety of washes; my favorite is this coated pair that is perfect for dressing up. In my experience, they run true to size.

Levi’s

Ribcage Straight Ankle - $108

I own two pairs of the ribcage straight leg jeans, one in the 27-inch and the 29-inch inseams. The 27-inch pair is pictured and hits right at my ankle bone, the 29-inch pair is full length on me. The denim in these jeans is stiffer than the Abercrombie denim, so I can wear these more times between washing. The name is not an exaggeration, these are the highest-rise jeans I own! Both pairs I own run true to size.

Universal Standard

Gwen High-Rise Carpenter - $148

If you’re not a fan of rigid, stiff denim, you will absolutely love this pair from Universal Standard. These super stretchy jeans are fantastically comfortable and have pockets galore. I love Universal Standard’s commitment to dressing everybody in every body, these jeans are available from sizes 00 - 40. I ended up sizing down two sizes and they still fit on the baggier side, so keep that in mind when picking out your pair.
